Romeo Gigli is an Italian designer from the region of Romagna who started working in fashion in his late 30s after studying architecture and traveling the world. Traveling was for Romeo the natural succession, as an adult that had conquered his freedom, of his childhood spent with his nose buried in the books of his father’s antique library and absorbing the beauty of rare collector pieces. Romeo travelled the world far and wide, discovering an inaudible passion for Asia, visiting from the metropoli of India and China to the remote lands of Tibet. India is the magical place that inspired Romeo to create, working on his first clothes in the 1970s in NYC with Dimitri where among other things Romeo created a deconstructed men’s jacked that won him the 1990 Woolmark Award. From there Romeo went on to become one of the most important figures in fashion, famously known for the aesthetic revolution in both menswear, and womenswear not limited to but including the colours, signs and embroidery he discovered in India which he combined with 17th century fabrics. His collections were all different and surprising, season after season. However, fashion was not enough; Romeo wanted people to be lost in his world of stories creating his own spaces (not stores) that were filled with treasures he had collected in his travels as well as pieces from other designers that he loves, and his interior design creations (vase, carpets, furniture, etc). One thing was always clear in his work, the places he visited in life and in stories were always part of his creative process be it direct inspiration or hidden quotes accessible only to those that have breathed that same air.

About High Atlas Foundation

The High Atlas Foundation equips Moroccan communities to become self-sustaining through income from fruit tree agriculture and carbon offset revenue – while preserving and celebrating aspects of cultural heritage across generations.

They envision a future where every Moroccan community is marked by structural social, environmental, and economic well-being, and:

  • where agriculture regenerates degraded land while feeding communities;

  • where women are honored and included in civil governance;

  • where youth are deeply rooted in intergenerational relationships that promote cultural dialogue and preservation;

  • and where the MENA region is leading the global movement for sustainable development and environmental restoration.
