Interview with Dorothy Roberts, 10-8-07
You wear a scarf almost every day. Outside of the fact that your parents started the business why do you enjoy wearing scarfs?
I think a scarf finishes off an outfit and it gives the person who is wearing it individuality.
Is this just a company line or do you really believe this?
I really do believe this. In addition, I do feel it is important for people who work for a company to love and support their product.
Do you wear scarfs differently than you did years ago?
Not really. I usually wear them around my neck in some way.
How and where do you keep up with all the trends that are happening?
I read, talk to people and I listen. I go to Fashion Group presentations, museums, art exhibits, galleries, movies, theater. When you live in New York on an every day basis you are exposed to so much you just absorb it.
And don’t forget stores. I see and pass a lot of store windows and walk through stores all the time. And I travel a lot.
How has fashion changed since you started at Echo?
First of all, everything moves so quickly. You have to think faster, act faster, be able to change, grow and be open. Also things are no longer one look. There are so many options today and so much variety. With Echo, which is so much fun, we are not one look. We offer a variety.
What do you know about blogs?
Nothing. Are you kidding? It is another thing I will have to learn.
