Hydrangea Garden scarf - in clementine

Posted by Jplantz | January 18, 2012 | tags:

I always thought the color yellow looked amazing on people with red hair.  I captured this shot at a meeting last week at the Echo offices of Sharon wearing our Hydrangea Garden scarf in clementine.  She rolled the scarf and then added knots every 2-3 inches, then tied it behind her neck. The result is a great pop of color, much like a statement necklace or interesting collar.  Yellow is the new pink this spring - how will you add yellow to your wardrobe?

The Clothes Horse

Rebecca, from the blog The Clothes Horse, creates great outfits that play off the Virginia landscape where she lives. She's created this recent look with deep neutrals in a stark wintery & barren landscape. Our ruffle touch gloves look super cute and sort of add a hint of vintage together with the black back-seam nylons. (I feel better knowing she can use her phone out there in the wilderness!)

We had some great on-air time this season for our Echo Touch Gloves with Hoda & Kathie Lee on Dec. 16th and Nate Berkus Show on Dec. 19th all talking about this must-have gift of the season!

Echo attended the 2011 Accessories Council ACE Awards last night at Manhattan's famed Cipriani.  Each year, the Council chooses honorees based on their influence and innovative contributions to the world of fashion and accessories.  This year the list included Marie Claire for Magazine of the Year and Nicole Richie for Influencer of the Year.  We were happy to spend some time chatting with Nicole - she's seen here in the picture below with Echo's account executive, Margaret Ricci.  Echo is also very proud to be a supporter of the Accessories Council.  Echo CEO Steven Roberts has been a board member for many years, sharing the honor with other industry leaders from such brands & retailers as Coach, Saks, Valentino, Bloomingdale's, Collection XIIX and Kate Spade to name a few.

There are many, many ways to wear a scarf and the fashion world cycles through each style just as it cycles through seasons.  Since the scarf remains a consistent accessory in every season, appearing in versatile patterns and colors, often one method will stand out as the trend in itself.  For Spring 2012, it's the headwrap.  Take a second to see how easy it is to tie and wear a headwrap - and be sure to bookmark all our how-to videos for quick wardrobe inspiration.

On Friday, the New York Times T Magazine published a little teaser on the scarf headwrap trend for Spring 2012.

Monday: Make it work!

We spotted Tim Gunn outside the New York Public Library this morning filming a segment for his BravoTV show "Guide to Style." Even in the fashion capital of the world, we still get a little bit starstruck - especially by someone so enthusiastic and smart about fashion, like Tim Gunn. Have a great Monday and 'Make it work!'

Echo's solid wool wrap with silk protein was featured in the October 2011 issue of Real Simple magazine in a one of fall's bright bold colors: chartreuse!  This wrap is the perfect accessory for fall.  It hits a beautiful functional note by keeping you warm when you wear it over a jacket, but it's also pretty as a melody when added to any outfit.  As one of Echo's most popular styles, it has a range of colors and has a unique manufacturing element.  You may be wondering, 'what exactly is silk protein?'  Was it made with silk from a silkworm on the Atkins diet?  Not exactly.  The wrap is 100% mercenized wool, meaning that it's a high quality wool that is treated with an alkali to increase its strength and receptiveness to the dye which also gives it a silky look and finish.  The end result is a super soft, beautiful and very versatile wrap that will take you from the office, to an evening stroll, from a shopping trip to a fancy dinner.  That's really simple ;)

In today's New York Times article "It's a Turban, It's a Dress (It's a Scarf)" May 26, 2011, writer Ruth La Ferla calls the scarf the "...diva of the spring and summer season."  Quotes by Echo's CEO Steven Roberts and VP of Publicity and Advertising, Lynn Roberts (both 3rd generation of Echo's founding family) point out that the scarf resurgence is a real, grassroots, natural evolution for this season.  “That kind of media exposure makes the trend more accessible,” said Steven Roberts.  Lynn adds “It’s not like people in the know are forcing this trend. It has a grass-roots appeal.”  Scarves really allow us to be our own stylists and therefore are great symbols of our individuality and our creativity. You really can acheive your own style with this important item in your wardrobe. From the article, “We live in a world where, ideally, every purchase has more than one function,” said Brooke Jaffe, the Bloomingdale’s accessories director. “They need to be style-able, to have personality.” La Ferla writes: "Inevitably, as it now seems, retailers have taken to touting scarves as the ultimate multitaskers, drawing attention to their shape-shifting properties and encouraging shoppers, through online videos and mannequin displays, to tweak, twist, loop, plait and knot them to form summer mufflers, cowl-neck blouses, turbans, halters, sarongs and goddess-worthy maxidress."

On Wednesday May 4th, The Today Show ran a segment on 10 Ways to Wear A Scarf.  Echo's Sequin Infinity Neck Ring was featured.  This infinity or neck ring type of scarf is so versatile because it can be worn looped around the neck simply as a scarf but also looped again and draped over your head as a headscarf.  Plus, as Life & Style Weekly contributing editor, Rachel Zalis, says in the segment, since this is a scarf with sequins "it's a great look to go from day to night."  It's a dramatic, chic, super versatile addition to your summer wardrobe!

A big floppy beach hat: drama, class and SPF

Posted by Jplantz | April 13, 2011 | tags:

We're loving this trend for the summer season: big floppy hats. They are glamorous and functional - all at once.  Hats, in general, impart a specific message and a feeling for the wearer.  Think about it. You walk a little differently with a cowboy hat on, right? A Fedora has a classic look all it's own (Read our blog post "The Fedora: It's French. It's Dramatic. It's Class")  But the beauty of a big floppy hat is that it looks great on everyone.  It adds instant drama to any outfit and it provides shade. And mystery. Just like your favorite pair of sunnies, you can tip this hat just so and angle it down over your eyes for a little beach intrigue.  So, when planning a seaside vacation, be sure to pack your beach bag carefully - and include the one most important item that will protect your lovely skin and showcase the beauty you are.
