Echo & Bloomingdale's: in-store events in your neighborhood!

Posted by Jplantz | September 30, 2009 | tags:

Echo is celebrating 50 years of partnering with Bloomingdale's to provide you with the greatest selection of scarves and accessories.  To celebrate, we had an event here at the 59th street location in New York a few weeks ago.  We're continuing the celebration with events at other Bloomingdale's locations in New Jersey, New York and San Francisco over the next few days so if you're in the area, stop by!  You can visit and explore the accessory department and Echo's new fall collection as well as vintage styles chosen exclusively for each event.  You can also pick up some tips on the art of scarf tying from our panel of experts.  They'll show you how to update and extend your wardrobe just by simply adding the right scarf.

I can't think of a better way to spend the afternoon than to grab a few friends, swing by the lunch cafe for iced lattes and then spend time at this iconic store soaking up all the inspiration, fashion and trends, and even bringing some home in the classic 'big shopping bag'!   Have fun and tell me how it went!

Short Hills NJ: Thursday Oct. 1 from 12pm to 2pm
Bergen Shops at Riverside, NJ:  Friday Oct. 2 from 12pm to 2pm
White Plains NY: Saturday Oct. 3 from 12pm to 2pm
San Francisco CA: Saturday Oct. 3 from 12pm to 2pm

How to Tie a Scarf: easy step-by-step videos

Posted by Jplantz | September 24, 2009 | tags:

Today Echo is unveiling two beautiful and easy step-by-step videos illustrating ways to fold, tie and wear a scarf.   Our first videos will make you a master at wearing a scarf in the most popular ways – as a casual neckwrap, twisted neckwrap, hacking style (great for winter mufflers) as a headband, and the ascot.  There's a stylish way for every personality, occasion and mood you may have.

Coco Chanel said “Fashion fades, but style remains.”  Instead of wondering ‘What is fashion?’ ask yourself, ‘What is my style?’  With every season’s fashion and trends it can be difficult sometimes for us define our own style.  Accessories can be the key to unlocking your style and they’re great for fitting whatever mood or climate you’re in. A scarf is the perfect accessory simply due to the fact that scarves come in many different colors, shapes, sizes and fabrics. And once you find a scarf that suits you, a scarf that makes you feel great whenever you wear it, you’ve actually doubled or tripled your wardrobe. These videos will give you the inspiration and the know-how to update every outfit you have.

So stop by and take a look at the videos. It’s easier than you think!  Then bookmark this video page so you can access it quickly for outfit ideas in the morning before work or on your way out the door for a lunch date.   Once you find the perfect scarf that fits your personality or your style, you’ll always have it hanging in your closet, your old friend, the standby, the perfect cherry on the top of your delicious outfit.  The scarf that is a reflection of you. Your own echo.

Hello Autumn. I'm falling for you all over again.

In honor of the changing season we wanted to share some colors of Autumn. Pretty soon the green summer leaves will turn to golds and brilliant reds and, here in New York,  will turn the banks of the Hudson river into an amazing display of nature's glory.  But you too can add this beautiful color palette to your wardrobe. And you'll need some warm layers to protect against the crisp, cold air when you plan a pumpkin picking expedition or evening stroll through the park.  For me, the poncho is the best item to break out for the fall. It's perfect with my favorite jeans and its much roomier than a sweater.  And the bonus of a poncho? The twirl!  Maybe I'll even do a few pirouettes to just to see the range.  Who said growing up meant we had to stop being ballerinas?  Here's to getting reacquainted with a season of bright orange pumpkins, crisp October skies, hot tasty cider and layer upon layers of beautiful colors!  (I think there's a song here about 'warm woolen mittens and whiskers on kittens' but that's going a bit too far now, isn't it?)

The Fur Trapper Hat - featured in our NY Times Magazine Ad

Posted by Jplantz | September 14, 2009 | tags:

This quilted trapper hat with plush fur (faux, of course) and earflaps has become a staple in the New York woman's winter wardrobe.   But wherever you are, this style works for anyone with a cold, blustery winter ahead of them.  Because when that icy wind comes whipping around the corners of the buildings here in the city, we often see this classic, unfortunate move:  gust of wind hits, hat goes flying, the 20 oz double caff soy latte plunges mercilessly to the sidewalk.  (a moment of silence for the coffee...)   And contrary to popular belief, rarely does a man like Mr. Big stop to help (remember how Carrie and Mr. Big met?).  So keep your 'cool' by buckling the strap under your chin. The plush fur will keep your ears warm, your iPod earphones in and your grace in check.  Add some aviator sunglasses and it's style, function and ecologically friendly. And it goes with everything - especially coffee.

If you were reading up on Fashion Week in this weekend's NY Times, then you may have seen our ad in the Magazine.  It features the Quilted Fur Trapper Hat and the Abstract Metallic Muffler.
