color and pattern on…. dessert!

24. March 2008 13:46

Last week I had the opportunity to try Crumbs cupcakes. Sure, we’ve all had cupcakes before. But these aren’t your average 4th grade party cupcakes. These are sophisticated. And it’s like art - with bold stripes and dots and great patterns. Fun flavors, great colors and delicious. Their flavors range from Black Forest to Caramel Apple to Carrot to Reeses and many more. What Crumbs would call “cupcake” the rest of the world would call JUMBO. They have a mini (regular cupcake size) and then bitesize. They have 5 locations throughout the city.

Enjoy!! - DB

My wallpaper from copenhagen

24. March 2008 13:22

So I went to Copenhagen two weeks ago on a design trip. The Danish are known for their great design and boasts such pioneers as Arne Jacobsen, Soren Holst, Hans J. Wegner, Cecile Manz, Christina Strand, Erik Jorgensen. Leslie and I were fortunate enough to see the work of the famous architect and designer Arne Jacobsen in the SAS Royal Hotel. Jacobson designed the entire hotel including the buildings exterior facade and features some of his most famous designs-the swan and egg chairs. As Leslie and I walked around the stores of Copenhagen we saw all of the clean, modern, bold graphics that the Danish are so good at. The patterns were all colored brightly and happily. Someone told me that the Danish are considered to be among the happiest people in the world. Their playful, quirky design sensibilities are a direct reflection of their apparent happiness. Right away I somehow wanted to bring a little of that fabulousness with me…I enviously eyed orange pod shaped chairs, heavy ceramic vases from the 1960’s, low, neat wooden tables with skinny legs…I wanted them all! I thought back to the small red suitcase already stuffed to the point of hard-to-zipper in my hotel room…and sighed. Then just when I thought all was a lose I spotted the most perfect roll of wallpaper. Great color-turquoise and green, great pattern-gigantic leaves…and the perfect weight and size to fit in the suitcase. I wasted no time once I got home, jet lag didn’t matter, I went right to the hardware store and purchased the biggest jar of wallpaper glue they had. There was no measuring involved, I was too excited and too impatient. I wanted that Danish wallpaper up and I wanted it now! I picked the walls and began. Two hours and one and half walls later is when I realized and I was out of wallpaper. My Danish dream had ended. - Amy

Room 606 is the only hotel room with the original Arne Jacobsen décor from July 1960
